We would rather fix a mistake than defend one. This page explains how we handle errors once an article is live.
How to report one
Email [email protected] with the article URL and what you believe is wrong, ideally with a source we can check it against. We read every correction request that comes in.
How we handle it
- Factual errors (a wrong date, a misstated licence condition, a figure that doesn’t match its source) are corrected in the article as soon as we can verify the fix, with a short note at the top of the piece stating what changed and when.
- Outdated information (a regulation that has since changed, a tool an operator no longer offers) is updated the same way once we confirm the current state of things.
- Disputed opinions or characterizations that are not factual errors are not automatically changed, but we will consider a request to add context or a differing view where it’s reasonable to do so.
What we do not do
We do not quietly edit an article and remove the record that a correction happened, and we do not accept payment in exchange for correcting or removing accurate but unflattering information. If a correction involves how we describe an operator’s compliance with a regulator’s rules, see also where we stand.
For a dispute specifically about an operator we’ve linked to, rather than about something we wrote, see raise a concern.
